Modern bath vanities bring a time tested piece of furniture into the twenty first century. The concept of a box with drawers, running water and a sink is the same but the presentation is different, often starkly so. Rather than a sink and counter top molded into a single piece, the modern vanity might sport a marble box with sides sloped inward top to bottom sitting atop a counter made of a different material; the water feed is likely to be a single faucet, perhaps even controlled by a motion sensor.
A contemporary bathroom vanity might have a molded sink supported by short legs sitting on a marble top, while the body is twin sets of drawers divided by a dead space reserved for plumbing lines. There may be one sink or a matched pair. The water proof surfaces may be man made or natural. The vanity may be wall mounted or it may sit on the floor. Mirrors may or may not be attached. In many cases, the design will be unusual, even iconoclastic but it will not fail to impress or even stun onlookers.
A contemporary vanity may be best suited for a complete modern bathroom remodel job. It is not likely that a new vanity will blend well with the original toilet or bath tub, or even the floor material. It is certainly a good idea to base the tenor of the bathroom around the appearance of the vanity. The tub or shower should not compete for attention but it can be designed, replaced or remade to enhance the overall effect of the remodel. The toilet should probably assume a quiet place in the corner where its use is comfortable but its presence not intrusive.
If resale of the house is a prospect for the near future, a remodeling job styled around a contemporary bathroom vanity may turn out to be a sticking point as much as a selling point. A bathroom remodel using contemporary items will be more expensive, perhaps even a lot more expensive, than a remodel with a more traditional tone. In addition, while it will no doubt be impressive, it may not appeal to everybody. However, if a bathroom is long overdue to look and function better, a contemporary setting can certainly present an attractive setting for current or future users.
